Casemiro has responded to the announcement that Ruud van Nistelrooy would be departing Manchester United after the end of his four-game interim spell

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has paid tribute to Ruud van Nistelrooy after it was confirmed that the Dutchman would leave the club.

United released a statement on Monday evening announcing that Van Nistelrooy was to depart Old Trafford after four games as interim head coach. The former United forward was put in charge following the sacking of Erik ten Hag and led the club to three wins and a draw during his time at the helm.

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend,” the club said in a statement which confirmed Van Nistelrooy’s exit. “We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

After Van Nistelrooy’s exit was confirmed, Casemiro took to social media to send a message to the departing former PSV manager. He said in a caption on Instagram: “Forever grateful. Legend.”

Casemiro’s latest post came a matter of hours after he reaffirmed the feel-good feeling around Old Trafford after United’s recent spike in form. He said: “Feeling the red passion in Old Trafford!!”

The Brazilian played 79 minutes in the club’s 3-0 home victory against Leicester on Sunday, making seven tackles during the match – only midfield partner Manuel Ugarte made more in the Premier League during gameweek 11.

United will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run under Ruben Amorim after the Portuguese started work as the club’s new head coach on Monday. His first game in charge is against Ipswich on Sunday, November 24.

Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro also expressed to journalists that he hopes they can move up the table under new boss Amorim. Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “The best thing is that everyone speaks highly of him. He marked an era at Sporting, at a time when FC Porto were the winners.

“Sporting are always among the three favourites, but they are usually a little behind Benfica and FC Porto, who are usually stronger. He marked an era, won titles and had a brilliant career at Sporting. Everyone speaks highly of him.

“He will have an exceptional group here, who want to help, who want to continue growing, who want to learn, who want to be at the top of the table. We are waiting for him with great joy and happiness.”

United are 13th in the table, but only four points off the Champions League places. Following the international break, Amorim and co face a busy period of games in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and Europa League.
